He tends to be pushy, impatient and not wait for me to show him\/ go onto the next link in the chain.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I wish my horse was&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>(If we&#8217;re going all out here, and maybe an I can&#8217;t wait until)<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A finished cutting horse who knows high school dressage, reining and a full roster of tricks. Surely that&#8217;s not asking too much? \ud83d\ude09<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I wish my horse didn&#8217;t<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I can&#8217;t think of anything so; I wish he didn&#8217;t require so much time that I don&#8217;t have. Wish I had more time.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>When I got him I dreamed of:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Showing him in cutting<\/li>\n<li>Getting back into ranch horse competitions and showing again (small dreams compared to now)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Short term goal:<\/p>\n<p>New: Walking with nice collection, head tucked<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Teach to tuck his head standing still<\/p>\n<p>-Hold head tucked position while standing<\/p>\n<p>-Tuck head at a walk<\/p>\n<p>-Hold head tucked position while walking<\/p>\n<p>-Tuck head at a trot<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Spanish walk<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Look for more videos and other instruction<\/li>\n<li>Ask for a lift with each leg, then walk forward, repeat<\/li>\n<li>Get more height with the lifts<\/li>\n<li>Keep working on getting him to step with me<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Accomplished, need to keep adding duration and height<\/p>\n<p>Bow<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Keep practicing<\/li>\n<li>Extend length of time down<\/li>\n<li>Practice holding positions with foot lifting<\/li>\n<li>Figure out how to transition to not needing to hold his leg to bow<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Doing pretty good, still working<\/p>\n<p>Painting<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>He is: picking up the brush, touching target<\/li>\n<li>Needs to put brush back in bucket<\/li>\n<li>Work on position, stand facing shed\/easel, better to paint from<\/li>\n<li>Need heavier bucket? easier to get brush in and out of without knocking over<\/li>\n<li>Wait until summer, reintroduce real paint<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Matt training<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Extend length of time he will stand<\/li>\n<li>Extend distance I can go and he will stay<\/li>\n<li>Add more mats, get him to walk between them<\/li>\n<li>Refine walk cue<\/li>\n<li>Refine stand cue<\/li>\n<li>Place mats in a circle, train to walk between them with refined cues<\/li>\n<li>Use the mats to teach him to walk in a circle around me<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Long term goals<\/p>\n<p>Teach how to work a calf<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Start teaching from the ground instead of waiting until I can ride<\/li>\n<li>Teach him to follow target instead of just touch it<\/li>\n<li>Work on turning on the hind quarters<\/li>\n<li>Follow cue to turn on hind quarters from a distance, like with head lowering<\/li>\n<li>Work over a fence, to maintain distance, and follow moving target<\/li>\n<li>Follow moving target from distance, giving good turns on hind quarters<\/li>\n<li>Be able to do it without the fence to hold him back (maybe with me standing by him and someone else being the cow?)<\/li>\n<li>Or, make a cutting dummie. Teach him to follow it and work by himself while I run it.<\/li>\n<li>Transfer to riding, will need another person \ud83d\ude41<\/li>\n<li>Eventually use real cattle!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What have we already accomplished?
