Juniper

I worked with Juniper today!

This is the first time I have officially worked with her. Although we’ve been having small sessions all along. Every time you are near a horse it is training of one sort or another.

The goal today was to work with Boone. But everyone wanted lots of attention. Including her. She was trying to ear my halter. So I decided to give her what she wanted.

Which upset Boone terribly. He wanted attention! He wanted to put his halter on. Why would I put it on her. How dare I. He was having absolute fits and then was in a mood when I did work with him right after. Talk about demanding.

June was great though. We did some treat manners training. Which in itself teaches about what the click means. She was very interested in food but has not yet put the noise that comes before together with the treat that comes after. No big deal. She did great for her first lesson.

Then we worked on the other side too and even put the halter on. It’s Rusty’s halter. A full sized horse halter set as big as it will go to fit Boone.

She looked a little silly.

I put it on. Gave her a cookie. Then took it off. She’s been caught twice while she’s been here. Before this time. Those were very practical and not particularly fun. If we do this a few times she’ll be much happier about being caught than she has been.

There’s a difference between being halter trained and being happy to be caught. Not catching for awhile helps a lot with that.

I did lose her once during our session to a cat. Can’t blame her for wanting to chase that away.
